Cubeb Pepper - Java



Cubeb Pepper, also known as Kabab Chini and Java Pepper (nicknamed 'tailed pepper') is a culinary spice, used as a seasoning for food in Indonesia and mainly used for medicinal purposes in south Asia. It is grown on tropical vines in Indonesia, near Java and Sumatra.
It has a peppery flavour with a hint of eucalyptus and nutmeg.
This pepper goes particularly well in Moroccan & North African foods, such as lamb tagine.
This sweet-smelling spice has a distinctively bitter flavour that becomes milder when cooked.
Crush or grind the berries first before adding to any type of dish.
It is one of the botanicals used in Bombay Sapphire gin.
Tailed Peppers are used in Indian Ayurvedic medicine, Chinese medicine and Tibetan medicine.
